Professor Andrew Townsend Peterson is working at the College of Liberal Arts and Sciences - Ecology & Evolutionary Biology, KU Biodiversity Institute in USA. He is as a University Distinguished Professor with highly cited researcher in 2016. His work focuses on aspects of the geography of biodiversity, with a focus on tropical ornithology and systematics, distributional ecology, and disease transmission risk mapping. His group of students and colleagues is diverse and global, including people interested in the three themes of his interests, from many countries and backgrounds. One component of his research focuses on the alpha taxonomy of birds, as well as on the phylogeny of recently radiated clades of birds. Tied to this focus is work with the basic geography of bird distributions, and with the composition of local avifaunas, based on detailed site inventories and scientific collections around the world. His work with the geographic and ecology of species' distributions, however, has taken me into other fields, including conservation biology and planning, invasive species biology, and disease transmission systems. In the latter field, his work has focused on numerous disease systems, including Chagas Disease, malaria, dengue, leischmaniasis, and ebola/ Marburg. In general, his work is collaborative in nature, and usually involves geographers, computer scientists, and biologists. His selected awards and honors are as Julie Denslow Prize Association for Tropical Biology and Conservation and also Phi Beta Delta, honor society for international scholars 2015 – Present.

Professor Fadhil N. Sadooni as a Research Professor and Adviser to Vice President for Research and Graduate Studies Office of Qatar University graduated with a B.Sc. degree in Geology from the University of Baghdad in June 1974. He was then sent to the army and started training in the Military Engineering School. Luckily the newly nationalized Iraqi Company for Oil Operations was in need of geologists so they sent me after 45 days to Kirkuk. After few tours and some encouraging rhetoric about the critical moments in the history of our country and that we need to take over the nationalized company, they assigned to me drilling the well Bai Hassan 42. Embattled by a very complicated geology, cold weather and the Kurdish warriors, he started his career in geology. After exactly one year, he got a scholarship from the Ministry of Oil, got married to a geologist and traveled to Bristol University to do his Ph.D. on the Cretaceous reservoirs of Northern Iraq. He was lucky to go to Bristol because it is the number one research university in the UK and he had a great supervisor Douglas Hamilton and the legendary H.V. Dunnington, Head of Geology at the IPC as his co-supervisor. His time in Bristol moulded me into a new person. He got his degree in April 1978 just after two years and six months. Returning back to Iraq he was sent again to the army. He spent there around six months and in February 1979 I started working with the Iraqi Oil Exploration Company, a subsidiary of Iraq National Oil Company. Between 1979-1991 he was called to the army 11 times: even Montgomery did not have to serve that long! In June 1991, he left Iraq and settled in Irbid, a wonderful city in northern Jordan and started teaching at Yarmouk University. In 1996 he moved permanently to New Zealand ad worked with the New Ventures Group of Fletcher Challenge Energy. In September 1998 he joined the Department of Geology, Qatar University and after three years I moved to become the Head of the Geology Department in the United Arab Emirates University till 2007. Since then he moved back to Qatar as a research professor, adviser in the Office of the Vice President of Research and associate director of the Environmental Studies Center. On April 10th, 2014 he have been appointed as adviser to the Vice President for Research. Professor Sadooni is a member of the American Association of Petroleum Geologists and served between 1983-1988 as a council member of the International Association for Mathematical Geology. His research interests are changing with time and at the moments he does research in carbonate reservoirs, evaporates and microbial sediments.

Professor Changshan Wu obtained hisBSc in Urban and Environmental Science from Peking University in China in 1995. His MSc was from Institute of Remote Sensing Applications, Chinese Academy of Sciences in 1999. He obtained his PhD in Geography, The Ohio State University in 2003. He is a broadly trained geographer with substantive interests in remote sensing, geographic information science, spatial analysis, and their applications in urban environments. Specially, his research focuses on two aspects: 1) remote sensing image analysis and applications, especially for urban impervious surface and population estimation, as well as urban growth modeling, and 2) spatial analysis and modeling, and their applications in housing market analysis, public health, and transportation studies. One emphasis of his research is to develop innovative methods for better extracting urban biophysical and socio-economic information, and applying the derived information for planning and management of urban and natural environments. Especially, his research in the urban remote sensing field includes 1) urban imperviousness estimation, in particular using the spectral mixture analysis method, 2) small area population interpolation and estimation using high-resolution remote sensing and GIS dataset, and 3) urban growth monitoring and modeling using spatial modeling techniques. In addition to remote sensing and urban analysis. The other research area of him is involved in GIS and spatial modeling (spatial optimization, spatial statistics, etc.) and their applications in housing market analysis, public health, and transportation studies.
